TxCI Selected for the 2030 Census Advisory Committe

Earlier this year, the U.S. Census Bureau announced the 23 members that form the 2030 Census Advisory Committee (CAC),  which is one of three advisory committees the Bureau relies on for guidance.

In the words of Dr. Robert Santos, Director of the US Census Bureau:

“This talented group of specialists will provide the myriad perspectives and expertise that will help us produce statistical data to accurately render the beautifully diverse and dynamic nature of the nation’s population…”

The accuracy of decennial census data is of crucial importance because, in addition to helping determine congressional districts and the plans of local governments and organizations, it guides trillions in federal funding.

Angela Broyles, Texas Census Institute Founder & Executive Director, is the only member representing the Lone Star State, which had a significant undercount in the 2020 Census, affecting Texas’ economy and Texans’ lives. Angela’s participation gives TxCI a strategic role in ensuring issues and partners that are critical to our state efforts are represented in the Advisory Committee’s agenda.

Among other responsibilities, TxCI will be able to give input to:

Innovations in data-collection and communication strategies that encourage people’s participation in Census activities
Collaborative strategies for engaging local governments in the Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA)
2030 Census planning for Texas

On July 26, 2024, the US Census Bureau hosted the first 2030 CAC Meeting. It is available for you to watch online.

The agenda of the event, material, and public comments can be found here.
